Tournament Selection

RAAA basketball directors try to select tournaments where we feel our Rockford teams can be competitive yet challenged. Feedback from players over the last few years is they enjoy playing new teams and going to different locations. Each season our schedule may vary and some reasons for this are as follows:

  • Some Associations will contact us for reciprocation. We go to their tournament they come to RAAA. It’s a great way to grow our RAAA tournaments especially if some communities can commit year after year. By doing this its less likely we have to cancel a RAAA tournament. The more teams we have at a RAAA tournament helps raise dollars for new uniforms, equipment, gym rental and preventing the raising of player registrations fees. Remember we also get to host their teams.
  • By going to multiple tournaments over the years many communities get to know our coaches and players and hopefully will respond by coming to our tournament.
  • Kids enjoy playing new teams and traveling to new locations.
  • We also don’t return to some tournaments if we receive negative comments from our coaches.
  • We must also look at price, number of games offered, facilities, and are they using certified referees.
  • We also look for tournaments where they offer multiple divisions A, B and C so we can send all our Rockford teams to one location.
